    Traditional Edict

    Linear Water Primrose (Inai Pasir / Xi Ye Shui Ding Xiang). Slender winged stems and clove-like capsules. Clears toxic heat, drains dampness to resolve acute nephritis edema, binds intestines to stop bloody dysentery, and clears jaundice.

    Cautions & Contraindications

    • Distinguish from broader Ludwigia octovalvis; L. hyssopifolia has linear-lanceolate leaves and tiny 2-3 mm yellow petals. High safety profile. Contraindicated in cold watery diarrhea without heat signs.

    Clinical Applications

    • Acute glomerulonephritis with generalized edema and proteinuria, acute bacillary dysentery (Shigella), acute cystitis with burning dysuria, and superficial burn wound healing.

    Quality Markers

    Gallic Acid >= 1.00%, Quercetin-3-O-glucoside, Corilagin & Condensed Tannins >= 4.00% (HPLC MHM standard)

    Mechanism & Phytochemistry

    1. Gallic acid and corilagin downregulate renal NF-kB and TGF-b1, reducing glomerular hyperfiltration and proteinuria. 2. High condensed tannins cross-link enterocyte proteins to stop diarrhea. 3. Glomerular diuretic flush.

    Preparation & Dosage

    Whole dried herb in decoction: 15-30 g daily. THE SOVEREIGN NEPHRITIS EDEMA & DYSENTERY DECOCTION: 30 g dried Inai Pasir boiled with Plantago asiatica and Poria cocos in 1 L water for 25 min. Fresh poultice for boils: 30-50 g.

    • 1. The Sovereign Acute Nephritis Edema Synergy with Plantago asiatica (Che Qian Cao) and Imperata cylindrica. 2. Bacillary Dysentery Decoction with Psidium guajava (Guava leaf).
